Lab-Grown Diamond Education

Purer stones that are eco-friendly and ethically sourced at the best price.

Lab-grown diamonds have disrupted the traditional diamond industry and are taking over by storm. These lab-created stones have the same optical, physical, and chemical properties as natural diamonds but with greater affordability and ethical sourcing. Gemaxis Jewellery is proudly providing our clients with the highest quality lab-grown diamond jewellery.

What are Laboratory-Grown Diamonds?

Laboratory-grown diamonds have essentially the same chemical, optical and physical properties and crystal structure as natural diamonds.

Like natural diamonds, they are made of tightly bonded carbon atoms. They respond to light in the same way and are just as hard as natural diamonds.

What’s the difference between lab-grown and natural diamonds

The main differences between laboratory-grown and natural diamonds lie in their origin. Think of it this way: laboratory-grown diamonds are like ice from your refrigerator, while natural diamonds are like ice from a glacier. They are both ice, although their formation stories and the age of each are very different.

Natural diamonds formed millions to billions of years ago in Earth’s mantle then were explosively carried by kimberlite and lamproite volcanoes to Earth’s surface, often carrying fascinating inclusions within them.

How long have lab-grown diamonds been around?

The oldest laboratory-grown diamonds are decades old; they are created in laboratories or large factories, most commonly using the High-Pressure, High-Temperature (HPHT) method or the Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) method.

Laboratory-grown diamonds appear identical to natural diamonds to the unaided eye and typically require testing by a laboratory with advanced instruments to be identified. For more information on lab-grown Diamonds please visit https://www.igi.org

What is the advantage of lab-grown diamonds?

  • Lab-grown diamonds are purer than the stones mined naturally, because unlike mined stones, synthetic diamonds do not have any dirt or impurities ingrained in them. They also have fewer defects and show fewer signs of strain in their crystal structure, because they are made under carefully controlled conditions.
  • Eco Friendly – Lab-created diamonds do not disturb any land surfaces. Additionally, lab-grown diamonds do not produce any mineral waste.
  • Ethically Sourced – Lab-created diamonds are conflict-free. Diamond miners are never harmed or exploited during the making of lab-grown diamonds.
  • Competitively Priced – Lab-grown diamonds typically cost 20-40% less than mined diamonds due to a shorter supply chain.

How are lab-grown diamonds made?

How are Lab-grown Diamonds certified?

Like naturals Diamonds, Lab-grown Diamonds are graded by Shape, Cut, Carat, Clarity & Colour and come with IGI certification.

The laboratory grown diamond’s girdle is also laser inscribed with the report number as well as the words “lab grown.”

These steps are taken in the interest of clear delineation for consumers.

Gemstones should only change hands when accompanied by a grading report attesting to quality.

Regardless of location or marketplace, an authentic IGI Laboratory Report is the common language of trust and confidence in the gemmological world.
